Self-image
Let us talk about a very important subject – self-image. To have a good self-image is to know who you are in God. You are created in God’s image (Gen 1:26-27 ). What does that mean to us? It means that God created us with an intellect, the ability to make choices, which means God created you with the ability to know right from wrong. You are also created as a responsible human being.
There are a few verses I engraved in my heart so that I can keep reminding myself just how unique God thinks I am: in Rom 8:29 God says that we are Jesus” brothers and sisters and He also says that “I’m the head and not the tail and I’m going up and not down” (Deut 28:13) and for me, the most awesome verse is Gen 2: 7 where it says clearly that His breath flows through me. Ask yourself that if you weren’t important enough to God, why on earth would He give you His breath? Don’t just know the verses but believe in it when you declare it. To be created in His image also means that the way you live your life must show His characteristics.
Let us find out what the meaning of self-image really means? – It means how you see yourself!! (Just a thought to chew on integrity is not what people say of you, but it’s what God knows about you), but you can also ask what the meaning of self-esteem is? There is a difference between self-image and self-esteem. Self-esteem means that it is how you value yourself or feel about yourself. It affects your confidence, motivation, and ability to make successful decisions.
Ok now that you know the difference between the two, you can see just how crucial it is to have healthy self-esteem because then automatically you will look and think positively of yourself and that means your self-image is good and then and only then you can embark on the journey to your destiny.
God warns us in Jeremiah 17:5-6 that if you trust on the arm of flesh you will be cursed. You are like a dry, dead bush in the desert, but in verse 7-8 God also says that blessed are the ones who put all their trust in Him. They will be like a tree planted alongside a water stream. Earlier I said God created you with the ability to make the correct choices, and what is so awesome is that He even supplies you with the guidelines you need.
I want to share a friend of mine’s testimony because many can identify with it and this specifically enriched my life. I asked her just why she thinks so positively about herself and always laughs? And she replied, “well, when both my parents died, I just realized that now it is up to me to look out and be there for my younger brother and sister”. See at that stage her older brother was away. She tells that she could’ve chose either to sit in a corner and cry or to accept her situation and stand on the fact that she is unique in God’s eyes and with Him all things are possible. It was a great privilege for me to experienced with her how God blessed her step by step in her workplace.
Remember life doesn’t owe you anything, and if you don’t choose to step forward and out step out of your comfort zone, you will always be in the same place, and I want to challenge you to make a choice that you never will regret after all God made the first unconditional choice when He chose to send His only Son, the Son who’s image you carry, the Son who died and rose again so that you can live, so I challenge you to make that choice, get out of the box the world tries to keep you chained in, and very important ……KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN GOD!
